Overview
Oral neuraminidase inhibitor. The primary antiviral for Influenza A and B. Reduces symptom duration by ~1 day and significantly lowers ICU admission/mortality in high-risk patients.
Maximum Dose
Max 150 mg/day (e.g., 75 mg BD).
Clinical Focus
Efficacy drops to near-zero if started more than 48 hours after symptom onset in healthy adults (though still used late in severe ICU cases).
Bottom Line
Oseltamivir is the standard antiviral for influenza treatment and prophylaxis, but must be started within 48 hours of symptom onset and provides only modest reduction in illness duration.
