The most common reason for failure on this drug is the patient failing to take the 3 weeks of oral overlap pills at home. Monitor Prolactin, BSL, and Lipids.

Clinical Pearl

If the pharmacy leaves Risperdal Consta on the bench overnight, the microspheres degrade. When injected, the entire 2-week dose will dump into the blood instantly on day 1, causing a massive overdose. It must stay in the fridge until 30 mins before use.
