A. Persistent or recurrent pattern of sleep disruption primarily due to alteration of the circadian system or misalignment between endogenous circadian rhythm and sleep-wake schedule B. Leads to excessive sleepiness or insomnia, or both C. Clinically significant distress or impairment
A. Self-reported excessive sleepiness (hypersomnolence) despite main sleep period of ≥7 hrs; ≥1 of: recurrent lapses into sleep during same day; prolonged main sleep episode (>9 hrs) that is non-restorative; difficulty being fully awake after abrupt awakening B. Hypersomnolence occurs ≥3×/week for ≥3 months C. Accompanied by significant distress or impairment
Delayed sleep-wake phase type; Advanced sleep-wake phase type; Irregular sleep-wake type; Non-24-hour sleep-wake type
Acute; Subacute; Persistent; Mild
Insomnia disorder (sleep timing problem vs sleep initiation/maintenance problem); Hypersomnolence disorder (sleepiness regardless of timing); MDD with hypersomnia or insomnia (mood episode context)
Narcolepsy (cataplexy, sleep paralysis, hypnagogic hallucinations, low hypocretin-1; MSLT); Obstructive sleep apnoea (respiratory events; polysomnography); Circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorder (timing problem; jet lag, shift work)
