Diagnosis information
Core diagnostic criteria, specifiers, differential considerations, and documentation support in one open, scan-friendly view.
All criteria are shown. No expand controls or hidden sections.
Core criterion A
Persistent or recurrent pattern of sleep disruption primarily due to alteration of the circadian system or misalignment between endogenous circadian rhythm and sleep-wake schedule
Core criterion B
Leads to excessive sleepiness or insomnia, or both
Core criterion C
Clinically significant distress or impairment
Consistent with [Circadian Rhythm Sleep-Wake Disorder] [specifier(s)]. Over a persistent period, there have been a chronic or recurrent pattern of sleep-wake disruption; misalignment between the individual's endogenous circadian rhythm and required sleep-wake schedule; difficulty initiating sleep; difficulty maintaining sleep; excessive daytime sleepiness; impaired alertness; reduced cognitive efficiency, forming a pattern consistent with a circadian rhythm disorder. The presentation is further characterised by a stable but maladapted phase of the circadian system causing sleep timing that is out of sync with environmental or social obligations. These symptoms have resulted in clinically significant distress or impairment, and the disturbance is not better explained by insomnia disorder, another sleep disorder, inadequate sleep opportunity, medication or substance use, a primary medical condition, or another mental disorder.
