With fetishism: Arousal focused on specific fabrics, materials, or garments.
With autogynephilia: Arousal from thoughts or images of oneself as female.
In a controlled environment: Limited opportunity to cross-dress.
In remission: No distress or impairment for a sustained period.

Documentation support

Consistent with [Transvestic Disorder] [specifier(s)]. Over a period of at least six months, there have been recurrent and intense sexual arousal from cross-dressing; sexual arousal manifested by fantasies, urges, or behaviours; marked distress or interpersonal difficulty related to cross-dressing, forming a persistent transvestic pattern. These symptoms have resulted in clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or interpersonal functioning. The disorder is not accounted for by gender dysphoria, culturally normative gender expression, substance effects, or another mental disorder.
