Since adolescence or early adulthood, there has been a pervasive pattern of excessive emotionality; attention-seeking behaviour; discomfort when not the centre of attention; rapidly shifting and shallow expression of emotions; use of physical appearance to draw attention; impressionistic and detail-poor speech; theatrical or exaggerated emotional expression; suggestibility; perceiving relationships as more intimate than they are. The presentation is further characterised by persistent interpersonal reliance on approval, validation, and attention across multiple contexts. These symptoms have resulted in clinically significant impairment in interpersonal, social, or occupational functioning.
