Core criterion A
Evidence by polysomnography of ≥5 central apnoeas per hour of sleep
Core criterion B
The disorder is not better explained by another current sleep disorder
Consistent with [Central Sleep Apnoea] [specifier(s)]. Across recurrent nights, there have been repeated episodes of central apnoeas; central hypopnoeas; diminished respiratory effort during sleep; abrupt awakenings with dyspnoea; fragmented or non-restorative sleep; excessive daytime sleepiness; impaired alertness. The presentation is further supported by objective evidence of five or more central apnoeas or central hypopnoeas per hour of sleep on polysomnography, with the majority of events being central rather than obstructive. These symptoms have resulted in clinically significant distress or impairment, and the disturbance is not better explained by obstructive sleep apnoea, medication/substance effects (including opioids), or other medical or psychiatric conditions.
