Clinically significant distress or impairment
Core criterion D
Not better explained by eating disorder concern about body fat or weight
Consistent with [Body Dysmorphic Disorder] [specifier(s)]. There has been preoccupation with perceived flaws in physical appearance; concerns that are not observable or appear slight to others; repetitive behaviours such as mirror checking, grooming, skin picking, or seeking reassurance; repetitive mental acts such as comparing appearance to others, forming a persistent pattern lasting several hours per day. The presentation is further characterised by significant preoccupation that is difficult to control and not better explained by weight/shape concerns typical of an eating disorder. These symptoms have resulted in clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or interpersonal functioning, and the picture is not better explained by an eating disorder, psychotic disorder, or substance/medication effect.
