Over an enduring period since at least adolescence or early adulthood, there have been persistent and pervasive maladaptive personality traits including affective instability; impulsivity; hostility; suspiciousness; detachment; perfectionism; dependency; emotional dysregulation; rigidity; eccentric behaviour, forming a pattern that causes significant interpersonal, occupational, or adaptive difficulties but does not meet full criteria for any single defined personality disorder. The presentation is further characterised by a stable and consistent pattern of inner experience and behaviour across contexts. These symptoms have resulted in clinically significant distress or impairment, and the presentation is not better explained by another mental disorder, substance use, or a medical condition.
